Valentine Fondue, 2005
Oil on line, 2' x 2'
February 14, 2004, Regardless of what is promoted, there is no one way to celebrate Valentine’s Day and like many couples our traditions have evolved as our relationship has grown. Other than always taking the time to enjoy being together I am not sure any two Valentine’s Day celebrations have been exactly the same. For us, Valentine’s Day marks the eve of our wedding. We normally celebrate by having a quiet evening alone, and when time permits, we like to prepare dinner ourselves. This February 14th was on a Saturday and Sandra planned a three-course fondue for the evening. The painting is of the dessert course, a chocolate fondue served with biscotti, fruit and a dessert wine. Earlier, we had a cheese fondue appetizer followed by a meal of tapas-style portions of meat and vegetables cooked in oil, fondue style, at the table. As always, Sandra invested some time creating just the right table setting, gathering placemats, napkins with heart-shaped napkin rings, pink candles and roses. Fred May
