Sunday Dinner, 2007
Oil on linen, 2' x 2' June 4, 2006, Even though Sandra worked in New York and I worked in Washington we had several years of memorable weekends with our family and a number of our friends that made the journey down interstate 95 from New York to spend the weekend in the Maryland countryside. In June, our Godmother who lives in Mississippi came to visit with her brother and sister-in-law in southern Maryland. Sandra planned a Sunday picnic-style dinner including chicken on the grill, potato salad, fresh baked bread, and homemade apple pie. I retired that April; we had been looking for a new home that was nearer to New York City as Maryland was a five to six hour ride. We were hoping to find a small town with a strong sense of community. In May, Sandra found the home of her dreams in Cape May, New Jersey and we began the process of selling our home in Maryland and moving to our new home. We knew Miss Martha would not come visit if she knew we were in the process of moving, so it wasn’t until after we ate that we told Miss Martha we had put our house up for sale and had been getting ready to move to Cape May.
