Citrus Salad, 2005
Oil on linen, 2' x 2'
November 13, 2004, In November, I did a radio interview with Margot Adler for NPR. We toured the subway talking about the art, but eventually the conversation turned to food and life. She connected us with her good friend Susan who lived near DC and in mid-November, we had a blind date with Susan and Gerry! Susan was a publicist for one of the Smithsonian Museums and her husband, Gerry, a physicist. Gerry was also a wine connoisseur and they came bearing wonderful wines for dinner. As Susan is vegan, Fred planned accordingly and produced a multi-course meal of wonderful dishes. There was a citrus salad with a thyme vinaigrette, grilled portobello mushrooms and a multitude of other vegetables, penne with peppers, and a pear poached in chianti for dessert. We would become fast friends that weekend, not knowing within a couple years Fred and I would move to Cape May and they would move to Portland.
