T.A., 1991
Acrylic on canvas, 30” x 18”
TA lived at the West 4th Street subway station. How she came to do so is an interesting story. She strayed into the East Broadway subway station in 1982. She lived in offices there for one year. Employees took her with them when they moved to the West 4th Street subway station restoration offices. There were people working there around the clock. TA lived a good life. She had a blue chair she particularly liked, but could often be found sleeping in one of the ‘OUT’ boxes. Workers on different shifts looked after TA. Meanwhile, Ta earned her keep by keeping the offices rodent free.
